Alfred is a stunning 1981 Volvo 242 GLT with a really great history, that has been lovingly cared for each time it was passed on to its next owner. Alfred is the namesake of his previous owner, who in his advancing years is no longer allowed to drive. Alfred has had three owners in total, all of whom knew one another and exchanged the vehicle between themselves once they became too old to drive. Alfred was purchased new in 1981 from McKevitt Volvo in Berkeley, CA (today located in San Leandro), and has spent the duration of its life in that area. Of note, each person whose hands this vehicle has passed through bought their first Volvo from the very same dealership, and each regarded Alfred as the most unique Volvo they had ever seen, and certainly ever owned.
Alfred will be undergoing the full suite of Auslander treatment. We are going to attempt to repair the original interior, thus will naturally replace the worn seat foam, seat suspension, and seat heaters in the process. If the interior can’t be perfect, reluctantly we will upgrade it to a leather interior… more to come of that in our future notes as we progress.
Mechanically, Alfred is VERY impressive. Naturally, the car will undergo a full inspection and overhaul by our Volvo mechanics, more on that to come.
Alfred’s body is immaculate. The car was painted about eight years ago, and currently in its untouched state could really use a buffing. Naturally, we expect the paint to be like new when work is complete. Of note, Alfred’s original Virgo wheels are positively beautiful too!
In all, Alfred is a real catch, and despite being an automatic, is an ABSOLUTE HOOT to drive! A serious head-turner, we are VERY EXCITED to get to work restoring Alfred, so stay tuned! As always, if you’re interested in this vehicle, or any others, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
